Ariel Harder
Ariel is an emerging artist located in Jacksonville, Florida. She began pursuing her lifelong passion and transforming it into a business in 2020, after the world shut down. She is a seasoned military spouse, originally from the state of Washington. Ariel’s days are spent happily married to her high school sweetheart, and busily caring for her 4 children. In the fall of 2023, she adopted her foster son after he was in her care for 511 days. She is a passionate advocate for foster children and foster parents. Her life is full and happy. She strives to be a light to her home and community, creating tranquil, yet imaginative artwork. Ariel’s current focus has been on abstracted landscapes, and oyster paintings. These subjects seem to flow effortlessly for her. The dichotomy of natural elements and unnatural saturation of color & texture adds a level of play that catches the imagination. Ariel sees natural beauty as “The Truth” the human condition strives to find. She endeavors to have the grounding in truth represented in her artwork even if abstraction is the subject. A way she accomplishes this is through expressive brush strokes to her landscapes, where the viewer’s eye can bounce around to color and still stay grounded to reality by distinguishing sky from ground.

View collectionJenny
Jenny was raised in Jacksonville, Florida and credits her parents with instilling a creative spirit and artistic drive within her. Her mother taught all her six children the joy of working with diverse media in arts and crafts projects on a regular basis. Her father loved to use his woodworking shop to create different functional designs and encouraged Jenny to learn the basics of construction and form. All of these childhood contributed to her developing a keen sense of space, color, and design. The combination of these parental influences fueled a passion in Jenny to use her talents to create abstracts which feature bursting colors, varied patterns, and a sense of organized motion. The end result is a visually pleasing sense of whimsy and fun that enlivens and brightens the home or wherever it is displayed. Jenny possesses a strong Christian faith that manifests itself in a grateful heart and a loving outlook for the world around her. This spirit is clearly captured in her work. Her paintings bring a sense of joy to the viewer. She hopes her work inspires the viewer to see the beauty and harmony of God’s creation reflected in her canvases. Jenny’s work is shown in boutique galleries, upscale home décor shops, and private collections.

I’m a second generation artist, so art has always been a part of my life. I grew up working and experimenting with materials in my parents’ shop. Rock climbing is one of my favorite things to do but also a main source of inspiration. Rock walls come in many shapes, colors and textures, so in my work I strive to inspire the natural feel and look of nature. But, in a way, that assembles it together and creates a minimalistic, contemporary feel that brings a peaceful but yet defined look.

It all started with a painting class with friends. I really wasn’t that interested in learning how to paint, but I wanted to be with them. At the very first class it was as if a lightbulb turned on. I couldn’t believe how much I loved it! I have spent most of my adult life building, remodeling and decorating houses, not to mention raising three children. So when I discovered painting just as my youngest was going off to college, I knew it was a gift from Heaven! I started with landscapes and florals, but after living and studying in New York City, my love for abstracts was confirmed. As a “recovering perfectionist”, I rarely have a plan when I begin a painting. Instead, I grab some colors and dive right in. I paint intuitively and spontaneously; wherever the Spirit leads! I work in mixed media, using acrylics, collage and mark making of all kinds; and mix up the styles from organic and calm to geometric and colorful. I love to problem-solve and abstracts give me lots of practice! Yet it still gives me such a feeling of peace and calm. It is my hope that I reflect my Christian faith well throughout my life and my art, and that my paintings will bring you a sense of joy, wonder and abundance! You will find me painting either in my Atlanta home studio or in the mountains of Western Carolina at Skylight Farm. There’s lots of inspiration to be found watching turkeys, black bear, deer, honey bees and wildflowers swaying in the wind - such a place of solace for me.

Painting is an exercise for me. Not like training for the Austin and NYC marathons that I have enjoyed running. Not like raising children and the exercise in patience and love that affords. For my left brain, analytical approach to much of life, painting is an exercise in letting go. When I approach a blank canvas, I battle the need for order and perfection and allow myself the freedom to begin. My painting experience began in the nook between our living room and den. The 3x3 space doubled as a wet bar, so I used the sink to wash out my brushes. However, my painting passion began in elementary school at the easel of a teacher, ironically in her home, as well. Even at that young age, my left brain fought for dominance and my teacher fought back by making me use unexpected color in surprising places. I didn’t see purple in the sky, but she either encouraged me to look again or (gasp) brushed some there anyway. Life isn’t always literal and neither is art. My work remains based in these truths. Elaine de Kooning was originally better known as Mrs. Willem de Kooning. However, she was also at the forefront of abstract expressionism in her own right and I’m as much drawn to her individualism as I am her gestural brushstrokes. She said, “My paintings repeat a feeling about Lake Michigan, or water, or fields…it’s more like a poem…and that’s what I want to paint.” I strive for the same in my work. My acrylic paintings are lyrical in nature, with movement and meaning that I feared only resonated with me. I’m so pleased they resonate with others as well. My studio remains in my Houston home, but now I have a dedicated space filled with light and across from the playroom where young voices punctuate my palette. I look out over a bayou full of life and nature, always changing and inspiring. That same bayou flooded my home during Hurricane Harvey, a constant reminder that life, like water en route to the Gulf of Mexico, is always in flux – good for my right brain and, therefore, my art.

Growing up in central Florida, as an elementary student, I was always drawn to anything that led me to explore being creative. I was fortunate to have teachers in my adolescent years that encouraged me to tap into that raw curiosity and who helped me develop a foundation of art and painting skills. I went to college at Troy University in Troy, AL and graduated with a degree in art and marketing with the intention of working in graphic design. My path, however, took me in a different direction and away from the artistic career I thought I would secure and leaned towards interior decorating and soft furnishings. Over time, I found myself gravitating back to painting as I was being commissioned to create wall art for local clients in the form of abstract expressionism. I love the freedom of abstract painting and working through the puzzle-like process of producing a balanced yet visually appealing painting. I enjoy creating pieces that reflect the client's interior color palette and personality. There is nothing better than seeing the joy that art can bring to a person and their home! Currently, my husband and I live in Montgomery, Alabama and have three children.

Art has always been a big part of my life. In fact I don’t know life without art. My parents told me that I was painting before I was walking. I remember being a kid and losing track of time because I was making something from paper, cloth or some leftover materials that I found. The whole process of creating objects; planning, working, the touch and feel, and I keep doing it over and over until it’s done. This process gives me satisfaction and a sense of truth and accomplishment like nothing else. I crave this experience and literally don’t know how I would be able to live without it. My life has been an interesting journey. Sometimes I feel like I have lived many lives because of my travels and the many places I’ve lived. Who we are is a combination of all the places we’ve been, the people we’ve met, the experiences we’ve had. We go through life and life leaves traces on us, molds us constantly and we evolve into an individual. My paintings reflect my story; my past or present stories or the ones I create in my dreams. They all flip in my mind in a stream of images, and it’s a constant race to try to record them. Some paintings will only get painted in my mind. The possibilities of how a painting will end up is endless and I just can’t wait to see the finished outcome. Acrylic and watercolor are the media of choice for me because of the fast drying process. I continue to learn every day, and my work constantly evolves, as I always have the desire to see things a bit different and in a new way. I like switching between wood and paper, watercolor and acrylic and because I spend so much time in the studio, that helps me to not get stuck. It forces me to see things from a different perspective and breaks my thought process so I can take a fresh approach.I am a full time artist working from my studio in Chattanooga, TN.
